Moeller senior Alex Kazanecki is a star player on the hardwood. He has started this season strong, leading the GCL-South in scoring, averaging 17.3 points per game. Big games include scoring 29 points vs. Hughes, 25 points vs. St. Vincent-St. Mary, 22 points vs. Chaminade Julienne and 20 points vs. Withrow.
He is coming off a great junior campaign when he had 20 double-digit scoring games. The Crusaders finished the season with a 26-2 overall record and an unbeaten 6-0 mark in the difficult Greater Catholic League South Division. Moeller earned its first GCL South title since sharing it with Elder and St. Xavier in 2020-21 and finished the regular season as the top-ranked Div. I team in Ohio. The Crusaders ended the season as regional runners-up, losing to Centerville in double overtime in the regional finals, even though Alex scored 34 points in the game.
Last season, Alex led the Crusaders' balanced attack with 12.9 points per game (tops in the GCL-South). He shot 54.3% from the field, 42.5% from three-point range, and 76.9% from the free-throw line. He also averaged 4.3 rebounds and made 48 three-pointers.
He was named GCL South Player of the Year, Cincinnati Enquirer Co-Player of the Year, first-team all-Southwest Ohio District, and second-team all-state. He was also a finalist for the Cincinnati Enquirer's All-Star Awards' Basketball Player of the Year.
A good student active in community service, Alex enjoys science, watching good movies, and occasionally playing golf. He plans on playing basketball at the next level but has not yet selected a college. He also plays for the Team Greatness/Midwest 3ssb club team.
His favorite athlete is Stephen Curry, favorite entertainers are Drake and Jhene Aiko, favorite book is Percy Jackson-The Lightning Thief, favorite movie is Coraline and most-like-to-meet is Drake.
