FUTURE GOAL: Going to
World Championships and Olympics and winning gold, representing my
country of Puerto Rico.
Simon Kenton has an elite wrestler in senior three-time All-American
Gabby Ocasio, who has won two Kentucky state wrestling championships
and is a major competitor on the world stage as well. She is a
three-time Puerto Rico World Team member and in 2023 won a Bronze
medal in Mexico City. She has also won a national championship.
Gabby, who was an undefeated 46-0 this season with 43 pins, won
Kentucky state wrestling championships in 2022 at 138 pounds and 2024
at 145 pounds. She also finished as state runner-up last season, when
she was a finalist for Greater Cincinnati Women's Wrestler of the Year
by the Cincinnati High School Sports Awards. This was the first season
that girls wrestling was a state-sanctioned sport in Kentucky. Prior
to this, local girls competed in a state tournament organized by state
wrestling coaches. She is the first female to reach 100 wins at Simon
Kenton and the first in school history to be a two-time female state
wrestling champion.
A good student who is active in community service, Gabby will wrestle
collegiately next season at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia,
Kentucky. Gabby also participates in powerlifting and unified track.
Her favorite athlete is Jacarra Winchester, favorite entertainer is
Joji, favorite book in The Twilight series, favorite movie is Creed
and most-like-to-meet is Sebastian Rivera.
