All-star softball player Savannah Smith returned to the Reading High
School Lady Blue Devils this season following a highly decorated
junior campaign when she was named first-team all-CHL, first-team
all-city (Enquirer), first-team all-Southwest Ohio District and
first-team all-state in Div. III. Savannah helped last year's team to
a 17-4 record (12-2 in league play).
Savannah is a left-handed pitcher who also plays first base. In the
circle last season, Savannah led the league in wins (15) and
strikeouts (221). She pitched 106 innings, earning a 15-3 record with
five shutouts. She struck out 221 batters and had an earned run
average of 1.45, third best in the CHL. At the plate, she hit .698
(second in the CHL) with seven home runs, 36 RBI, 22 runs scored and
an on-base percentage of .781. She holds the school record for most
home runs in a career and most home runs in a season.
Savannah had a solid senior season, too, and was named as a preseason
high school All-American. She finished fourth in the CHL with a .556
batting average. She had 14 doubles, 20 RBI, 30 runs scored, and a
.688 on-base percentage. In the circle, she went 12-6 with 182
strikeouts (second in the CHL) in 108 innings pitched, five shutouts
and a 3.50 ERA. Her 12 wins were second-most in the CHL and Savannah
was named first-team all-CHL and honorable mention all-SWO District
Div. III.
Active in community service, Savannah also plays softball for the
USSSA Pride Platinum team and has committed to Davis and Elkins
College in West Virginia. Her favorite athlete is Jennie Finch,
favorite entertainer is Pete Davidson, favorite book is The Strange
Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, favorite movie is Remember the Titans
and most-like-to-meet is Markiplier.
