Holy Cross senior Jacob Meyer is a prolific scorer in basketball (he has
scored 40+ points more than thirty times in his career), and he has now
re-written the record books in Northern Kentucky. When he recently
scored his 3,129th point at Holy Cross, he became the all-time points
scorer in Ninth Region history. A likely Kentucky Mr. Basketball
candidate, he broke the Ninth Region career scoring record of 3,128
points set by Beechwood’s Scotty Draud in 2021.
Jacob scored 1,109 points overall last season, setting a Ninth Region
single-season record. He helped the Indians to a 21-10 record, losing to
Dixie Heights in the Ninth Region semifinals. In a first-round win over
Conner in the 9th Region tournament, he scored 41 points to tie a
tournament record.
His junior year, Jacob averaged 38.2 points a game to go along with
seven rebounds and five assists per game. He hit 78 3-pointers on the
season. His 38.2 points-per-game average led both the Commonwealth of
Kentucky and also the nation. Top games included scoring 58 points vs.
Robertson County, 57 points vs. DeSales, 50 points vs. Bracken County
and 45 points vs. Eastern.
He is scoring well again this season, with 58 points vs.Walton-Verona,
37 points vs. Scott County and 41 points vs. Newport Catholic. He is
leading the state in scoring, averaging 36 points per game. Some big
moments this season came when he hit a game-ending shot vs. Newport to
give the Indians its second straight 9th Region championship in the
All-A Regional Classic. He was named MVP of the regional All-A
tournament. Then, in the state All-A Classic, he set a tournament record
with 49 points vs. Evangel Christian in the championship game, leading
Holy Cross to a runner-up finish. He was tournament MVP here, too.
Jacob holds numerous records and earned several honors last season,
including being named NKAC Div. II Player of the Year and second-team
all-state. He was also selected to play in the prestigious
Kentucky-Indiana junior all-star series.
Active in community service, Jacob also plays basketball for the Indy
Heat club team. He will play basketball at the next level, but has not
yet selected a college. He made a commitment with Western Kentucky
University before his junior year, but he reopened the recruiting
process last summer.
His favorite athlete is Ja Morant, favorite entertainer is Michael B.
Jordan, favorite book is Winning through Intimidation, favorite movie is
Black Adam and most-like-to-meet is Cam Newton.
COACH'S QUOTE – "Jacob is an elite scorer and explosive athlete.
He has set many records that will never be broken and will be
remembered by NKY high school basketball fans for a lifetime."
— Casey Sorrell, Varsity Basketball Coach
