Ursuline Academy's volleyball program has an Under Armor All-American
performer in
6'3” middle blocker Brooke Bultema, a four-year varsity player who has
committed to
play collegiately at the University of Kentucky. Ursuline won this
season's GGCL
championship, and was rated as the top girls' volleyball team in the
state of Ohio. The
Lions, who this season also won the Ohio regional championship, went on
to win the
Ohio state Div. I championship, the program's eighth state title in
volleyball. Brooke had
13 kills in the championship match.
Brooke led the GGCL in kills (372) and blocks (100) this season. In a
regional semifinals
win vs. Mount Notre Dame, Brooke recorded her 1,000th career kill. Last
season was
first in the GGCL in blocks with 131 plus third in kills with 338. She
also recorded 32 digs
and 28 aces as the 20-7 Lions finished in a three-way tie for the GGCL
championship
and made it to the regional finals in Division I. During last season,
Brooke set a school
record with 13 blocks in a game vs. Seton.
She has earned numerous honors for her play. Last season, she was named
to the USA
Volleyball National Team Development Program's spring, summer and fall
teams. She
was also first-team GGCL, first-team all-city (Enquirer) and second-team
all-state.
A good student who is very active in community service, she plays her
club volleyball in
the Elevation Volleyball club organization. Her favorite athlete is Anna
Stevenson,
favorite entertainer is Coldplay, favorite book is Why the Best Are the
Best by Kevin
Eastman, favorite movie is Maverick and most-like-to-meet is Novak
Djokovic.
