Mason senior Carl Bloebaum is a swimming All-American, a member of the
USA National Junior Swim Team, an Ohio state champion and a six-time
school record-holder. He holds school records in numerous events,
including the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 100 backstroke, and 200
medley relay.
Carl earned his Ohio state championship last season as a member of the
200 medley relay team that finished with a time of 1:31.17. He also has
five GMC swimming championships and has been named by the Enquirer as a
first team all-city swimmer three times. He has also been first team
all-GMC three times. He has started strong this year: At the Viking
Invitational, won the 100 butterfly in 46.85 and the 100 backstroke in
48.50. He also anchored Mason's winning 200 freestyle relay team.
Carl's club swim team is the Mason Manta Rays. He has competed in
international competition, where he finished 6th in the 200 meter
butterfly while representing Team USA in the FINA Swimming World Cup
competitions in Berlin and Budapest. He also competed in the U.S.
Olympic Trials, winning the 200 butterfly in Wave 1. During the summer,
he had the #1 time in the nation for 18-and-under competition in the 100
butterfly and 200 butterfly.
A super student (4.66 GPA) who is involved in community service, Carl
will swim collegiately at Virginia Tech University. His favorite athlete
is Joe Burrow, favorite entertainer is Kanye West, favorite book is The
Da Vinci Code, favorite movie is Ferris Bueller's Day Off and
most-like-to-meet is Ken Griffey Jr.
