In this season's opening game vs. Lakota West, St. Xavier found
themselves down 14-3 in the second quarter, when St. Xavier senior
quarterback Brogan McCaughey helped guide the Bombers to 28 unanswered
points, holding Lakota West scoreless over the next 29 minutes to win
31-14.
Brogan burst on the scene in a big way last season, his first year as a
varsity starter, leading the Bombers to a 10-2 record and the program's
fourth Ohio Div. I state football championship. In the state final game,
Brogan and the Bombers beat previously unbeaten Pickerington Central
44-3, the largest margin of victory in Ohio state championship history.
His four TD passes in the game tied a state tournament final game
record, plus he scored another TD rushing.
On the year, Brogan threw for a league-leading 2,708 yards and 28
touchdowns despite missing some games with injury. He was named first
team GCL South, first team all-city, first team SWO District and first
team all-state. He was a finalist for Offensive Player of the Year by
both Tri-State Football and Cincinnati.com's High School Sports' Awards.
Brogan was the top-rated performer among invitees to the prestigious
Elite 11 regional quarterback competition in Philadelphia in May.
Brogan holds several school records, including most passing yards in a
single game (556 yards vs. Cleveland St. Ignatius), most completions in
a single game (39), and most passing TDs in a single game (five).
A multi-talented athlete, Brogan has also played baseball, basketball,
hockey and track. A good student involved in community service, Brogan's
favorite athlete is Patrick Mahomes, favorite entertainer is Kevin Hart,
favorite book is the Lightning Thief, favorite movie is Rocketman and
most-like-to-meet is Elon Musk. Holding numerous college scholarship
offers, Brogan has not yet selected a college.
