Back for another run at a Kentucky football state championship is
Covington Catholic senior Caleb Jacob, the quarterback who last season
led the Colonels to an undefeated 15-0 record and the Kentucky Class 5A
state title, a 14-7 victory over Frederick Douglas. It was the Colonels'
second state title in three years and their eighth championship over
all, and this season they are once again ranked as the top team in Class
5A in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Colonels have won 19 consecutive
games, and since the beginning of the 2017 season, they are 48-1 with a
pair of state championships.
Caleb threw for 2,817 yards and 33 touchdowns last season, as was named
1st team NKY by the Enquirer. He has started strong this year, with
several good games, including a 41-0 win vs. Cooper when he passed for
261 yards and ran for 51 yards while scoring five touchdowns (three
passing, two rushing.) In a 45-7 win vs. Boone County, he had three
touchdowns, two passing and one rushing, as the Colonels moved to 4-0 on
the season.
He started his varsity career as a sophomore on a positive note,
becoming the top quarterback in Northern Kentucky, completing 146 of 224
passes for 2,819 yards and 28 touchdowns. His 65.2 season passing
percentage was a school record. He was a Northern Kentucky all-star and
was honorable mention all-state.
A good student who is active in community service, Caleb also sings in
the school choir and his uncle is Coach Eviston. He plans to play at the
next level but has not yet selected a college.
His favorite athlete is Tom Brady, favorite entertainer is Tyler
Childers, favorite book is Hatchet, favorite movie is The Sandlot and
most-like-to-meet is Margot Robbie.
COACH'S QUOTE – "Caleb has grown tremendously both physically
and mentally since taking over the reins of our offense as a
sophomore. His ability to ‘play the next play' provides our team the
opportunity to strike hot at any moment. Mix in the fact that he can
make all the necessary throws with his strong arm and he has all the
potential to put the team on his shoulders and lead a highly
successful senior campaign!"
— Eddie Eviston, Football Coach
