Driving for another Ohio state soccer championship this year is Lakota
West senior Sydney Jones, named by the Enquirer as one of this
preseason's Top 10 players in Cincinnati and selected by Top Drawer
Soccer to its 2020 Great Lakes All-Region team.
Her junior year, as a defender/midfielder, Sydney scored 13 goals
(second in the GMC) and had 20 assists (led the GMC) for 46 points
(second in GMC), helping the Firebirds capture the GMC championship and
an Ohio state championship, the first state title since 1999. The
Firebirds, coached by Brigit Reder, compiled a 22-0-2 overall record,
and an undefeated 8-0-1 in league play and were named the Cincinnati.com
Sports Awards' Team of the Year.
Sydney was named first team all-GMC, first team all-city (Enquirer) and
was a finalist for Cincinnati.com's Sports Awards' girls' Soccer Player
of the Year. She also was named to the USA Soccer DA Midwest Regional
team. She holds several school and conference records.
Sydney is a member of the U18 Women's National Team Player Pool. She
also plays for the Cincinnati Development Academy and Cincinnati United
Soccer Club. In January 2020, Sydney represented the United States'
Youth National Team in the Tri-Continental Tournament against China,
Netherlands, and Norway.
A good student who is active in community service, Sydney has committed
to play soccer collegiately at The Ohio State University. Her favorite
athlete is Rose Lavelle, favorite entertainer is Kevin Hart, favorite
book is Kindred, favorite movie is Us and most-like-to-meet is Neymar.
