One of the Eastern Cincinnati's (ECC) finest track and cross country
performers for several years has been Kings High School senior Alex
Justus, who won this past season's Ohio state OATCCC Div. I indoor track
championship in the 800 run in 1:52.49, the second fastest 800 indoor
time in the nation.
Success started early for Alex. When he was a freshman, he was one of
the nation's top distance runners for all freshmen nationally. He was
ranked as the nation's fastest freshman at 800 meters and Ohio's fastest
freshman at 1600 meters.
A New Balance Track All-American, Alex holds numerous records, including
the Div. I ECC conference (1:56.28) and district record (1:53.14) in the
800 run, and the ECC record in the 4x800 relay (7:55.77). He has several
Kings High School records in the 800 (indoor and outdoor), 4x800 relay
(indoor and outdoor) and the 4x1600 outdoor relay. At this season's ECC
Track Championships, he won the 400 meter and 800 meter runs with a
school record in the 400 meter and an ECC meet record in the 800 meter.
He was district champion in the 800 in a district record 1:51.69, and at
the regional championships, he won the 800 in 1:54.70. He was Ohio state
runner-up in the 800 (1:51.23).
With a junior track campaign wiped out by the pandemic, Alex as a
sophomore, was an Ohio state champion on the indoor 4x800 relay team and
was ECC champion in the 800 run and outdoor 4x800 relay. He was district
champion in the 800 in a district record time of 1:53.14, placing third
at the regional competition in the 800 and third at the Ohio state
championships in the 4x800 relay. He was named ECC Distance Runner of
the Year.
A four-time state qualifier in cross country, this past season, Alex set
the school's all-time fastest time in cross country (15:32.5) and was
champion and set meet records at the Milford, Seven Hills and Kings
Invitationals. He finished 6th at district, 10th at the regional meet
and 26th at the state championships. He was named first team all-ECC and
first team all-city by the Enquirer and was a finalist for the
Cincinnati Sports Awards' Cross Country Runner of the Year. He has been
first team all-conference in cross country four straight years.
A great student (National Merit Scholarship Finalist) and member of
National Honor Society, Alex is involved in community service and will
run next year at the University of Kentucky.
His favorite athlete is Nick Chubb, favorite entertainer is John
Mulaney, favorite book is It, favorite movie is The Dark Knight and
most-like-to-meet is Warren Buffett.
COACH'S QUOTE – "Alex has demonstrated the effort,
determination, and dedication it takes to be a premier athlete and
outstanding student. Alex is a great example for other
student-athletes to follow"
— Chris Griffin, Track Coach
