Walton-Verona all-star wrestler Spencer Moore entering his senior season already had won a Kentucky state championship - he won the 106 lb. class in 2020 - and this season he was aiming for another one. Entering this past season, he had an impressive career record of 109-13 with 72 pins and was rated as the #1 high school wrestler in Kentucky in the 120 lb. weight class.

Spencer then proceeded to have a great undefeated senior season, along the way winning the Region 6 championship at 120 lbs. He then won the state semis tournament to go 24-0 on the season and advance to the state tournament, where he won his second Kentucky state championship, stretching his senior season unbeaten record to 25-0. He has not lost a high school match the past two seasons.

At his 2020 state championships, Spencer set a state tournament record for the most pins in the least amount of time with five pins in a total of six minutes. He has won numerous honors, including being a Super 32 All-American and WIN Magazine Kentucky State Wrestler of the Year. He was the NKY Wrestler of the Year by the Enquirer.

In late April, Spencer won the Cadet Freestyle National Championship and he will compete this summer at the world championships in Budapest, Hungary.

"Spencer Moore is a coach's wrestler," says his coach, John Roth. "He is like having another coach in the room. He never comes to practice and looks at it as just a practice. He treats all his practices as if they were competitions and by him doing this, he brings the most out in his teammates."

A great student (who skipped the sophomore grade), he is active in community service and will continue his wrestling prowess at the collegiate level next year at the University of North Carolina—Chapel Hill. His favorite athlete is Kyle Dake, favorite entertainer is Adam Sandler, favorite book is The Giver, favorite movie is The Longest Yard and most-like-to-meet is Elon Musk.

COACH'S QUOTE – "Spencer off the mat is an outstanding student and he wants to be the best student as well, almost like a wrestling match in the classroom. Not only is Spencer an outstanding student and athlete, but he is an even better person. I have no doubt that he is going to end up doing great things in his life, even outside of wrestling!"
— John Roth, Wrestling Coach
