Olympic Trial cut in the 100 butterfly
Mason High School's Kiara Anchrum is a swimming All-American and an Ohio
state champion, having won the Ohio state title her junior year in the
100 butterfly in 54.48. She recently helped the Comets' girls' team win
a fourteenth straight GMC swimming championship. Kiara won the GMC
championship in the 100 butterfly in a new conference record time of
56.69. She was also on the 200 medley relay team that took the GMC title
in a record time of 1:46.06. She was first team all-GMC in those two
events, plus she was a member of the winning 400 freestyle relay team
that took the GMC title.
Following her GMC success was dominance in the 2021 sectional
competition, where she won four championships. She won the championship
in the 100 butterfly (55.59), was on the champion 200 freestyle relay
team (1:38.13), the champion 400 freestyle relay team (3:35.42) and on
the champion 200 medley relay team (1:45.06).
At this year's Ohio State championships, she was on the state runner-up
200 medley relay team, was third in the 100 butterfly, was on the fourth
place 200 freestyle relay team and the 400 freestyle relay team that
finished eighth.
Kiara holds numerous swimming records, including three Mason High
records, two GMC conference records and four Southwest Ohio Coaches
Classic records. Swimming runs in the family as Kiara's twin sister,
Tiana, is also an all-star swimmer.
A good student who is a scholastic All-American and is active in
community service, Kiara also swims for the Mason Manta Rays club team.
She is a U.S. Open qualifier, a Speedo Summer Junior Nationals qualifier
and a Winter Junior qualifier. She will swim collegiately next year at
Xavier University. Kiara has lived in Singapore and Sweden and has
traveled to more than 40 countries.
Her favorite athlete and most-like-to-meet is Sir Lewis Hamilton,
favorite entertainer is Chris Rock, favorite book is The One by Kiera
Cass and favorite movie is Fast Five.
