Walton-Verona senior Ashley Akins is an All-American runner and one of
the top student-athletes in Northern Kentucky.
Her junior year at the Kentucky state track championships, Ashley was
state runner-up in the 800 run (2:25), was on the state champion 4x800
relay team and state runner-up 4x400 relay team. At the regional
championships, she was runner-up in the 800, and was a member of two
regional championship relay teams - the 4x800 and 4x400 teams. Plus, she
is a three-time NKAC champion in the 800 and 1,600 runs, and won the
3,200 NKAC title her freshman year.
Ashley also competed in cross country for the Bearcats, and is an AAU
Cross Country All-American. She is an academic all-state performer in
both track and cross country, and she will run collegiately next year at
Thomas More University.
Ashley is very active in community service with 105+ hours of community
work since her freshman year. Her favorite athlete is Alex Morgan,
favorite entertainer is Will Ferrell, favorite book is Dear John,
favorite movie is The Blind Side and most-like-to-meet is Ellen
DeGeneres.
