Mt. Notre Dame senior Makira Cook of Forest Park already has had a
successful prep basketball career, having already won two Ohio state
championships. Last season as a junior, she averaged 7.1 points per
game, 5.3 assists per game (1st in the GGCL) and 2.2 steals per game
(fourth in the GGCL).
Her parents are Glynett Cunningham and William Cook, her Biggest
Influence is "My aunt Keisha," and her future goal is to play
basketball overseas. Her favorite athlete is LeBron James, favorite
book is Out of my Mind by Sharon Draper, favorite movie is White
Chicks and most-like-to-meet is RealTalkKim.
Makira has earned at least second team all-academic honors every year
and led the GGCL in assists this last year. Her basketball club team
is Sports City U. and she will play collegiately at the University of
Dayton. She also likes to participate in Hot yoga. As part of her
community service, she has designed an inner-city kids' basketball
camp, has volunteered at Ronald McDonald House and Matthew 25 several
times, plus has done community work with St. Vincent DePaul. "I have
given clothes to the homeless as well as meals, and I went on a
service trip to Liberty Kentucky," says Makira.
