One of Northern Kentucky's top basketball players is Cooper senior Adam
Kunkel, a three-year varsity starter at guard.
Entering this season, Adam already was a member of the 1,000-point club
with 1,148 career points to go along with 285 career rebounds, 121
assists and 99 steals. Before it's all over, he could become the
school's all-time leading scorer.
He has had numerous big games this season, including a 22 point-10
rebound effort vs. Pulaski County. He also had 19 points-16 rebounds-5
assists in a big win vs. Elder, plus 23 points vs. Covington Catholic,
19 vs. Conner and 17 vs. Ryle.
His junior year, Adam averaged 17 points-5.2 rebounds-2.6 assists per
game and helped lead the 31-5 Jaguars to the school's first-ever Ninth
Region championship and first-ever state runner-up finish.
Adam has earned numerous honors, including last year being named MVP of
the 9th Region tournament, Northern Kentucky Basketball Coaches
Association Player of the Year and 3rd team all-state. He was also named
to the all-tournament teams of the State Sweet 16 and 33rd District
championship tournaments.
A good student who is active in community service, Adam will continue
his basketball play next season at Belmont University.
His favorite athlete is Russell Westbrook, favorite book is Of Mice and
Men, favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption and most-like-to-meet is
LeBron James.
