MVP ACCOMPLISHMENTS: This senior
pitcher went an undefeated 8-0 with a 2.10 ERA last season and
was a major cog in helping the Panthers (28-1) win the Ohio Div.
I baseball championship. It was the 12th Ohio baseball title for
Elder, more than any other school in the Buckeye state. The Panthers
were ranked 8th nationally by Baseball America and 16th nationally
by USA Today. Matt shut out Lewis Center Olentangy 8-0 to win a
big regional semi-final game, then followed this up by hurling
a 3-hit, 3-0 shutout vs. Toledo Stark to win the state title game.
(The Panthers are pre-season ranked #1 in Cincinnati this season.)
Active in community service, Matt plays summer ball for the Weststar
Panthers. He plans to play at the next level, but has not yet committed
to a college. His favorite entertainer is Pearl Jam, his favorite
athlete is Sean Casey and his most-like-to-meet is President George
Bush.
