One of Northern Kentucky's best baseball players is senior Ethan Kavanagh, a talented shortstop for the Highlands Bluebirds.

A pre-season all-state selection, Ethan, who bats and throws right handed, had an outstanding junior year at the dish for Highlands, hitting .495, with four home runs, 30 RBI, 46 runs scored and 12 stolen bases.

He earned numerous honors, including being named 1st team all-state and 1st team all-NKY (Enquirer). The Bluebirds finished 22-9 on the season and were regional runners-up. Prior to last year's regional runner-up finish, the Bluebirds were 9th Region champions four years in a row. Ethan also was on the 2018 Highlands' team that finished as Kentucky state runners-up.

Ethan has batted over .400 for his varsity career. He has also played second base and pitched. His club teams are the 5-Star Nationals and the Midland Redskins.

A good student, Ethan's favorite athlete is Mookie Betts, and favorite entertainer and most-like-to-meet is Francisco Lindor. He will play baseball collegiately at the University of Kentucky.

COACH'S QUOTE – "Ethan is a relentless competitor. He understands the importance of competing every day in life, regardless of the field. Obviously, he is a talented baseball player but that is only part of it. While many baseball players tend to lean towards spending time on things they are best at, Ethan works hard to focus on things he needs to improve. He puts that effort into academics as well as baseball, and does it all with humility. We are extremely proud of Ethan and all he has accomplished. We cannot wait for him to continue to improve and excel at the University of Kentucky."
— Jeremy Baioni, Baseball Coach
